With 25 years of experience in radio, including stints at 105.7 The X in Harrisburg, Hot 93.5 and 103.9 in Phoenix, www.irockradio.me, and serving as the sports director for the Radio PA statewide news network, Rick Dougherty brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the airwaves. He currently hosts the Irish Baseball Podcast for the Irish American Baseball Society and Tall Guy Talks Travel. Beyond radio, Rick has an extensive background in sports, having worked with multiple professional teams across the NFL, MLB, NHL, USL, and various Minor League Baseball clubs. His diverse experience makes him a trusted voice in both broadcasting and sports communities.
About Rick
For my WVYL show this year, I’m excited to transition from 90s Alternative rock to exploring the rich sounds of Irish music. Radio holds a special place in my heart because it strikes the perfect balance between being local and accessible while also having the power to create a shared cultural experience. It’s a platform where you can discover a DJ with a unique sense of humor right in your community, and where new artists who might not be getting airplay elsewhere can find their voice.
My favorite music artists span a variety of genres and eras, including Pearl Jam, Alanis Morissette, Everclear, Lorde, The Jellybricks, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, and The Beatles. One of the best live music experiences I’ve ever had was attending the legendary 3.5-hour Pearl Jam concert in State College, Pennsylvania in 2003 – an unforgettable night that truly captured the magic of live performance.
